Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government will provide concrete and suitable accommodation in Kashmir Valley to scores of Kashmir Pandits employed under the Prime Minister’s package, as the new constructions are coming up at over 20 places across the Valley, a senior official said Saturday.
Ashok Pandita, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) made these remarks after conducting a weeklong tour of Kashmir to assess and sort out problems being faced by the Migrant Employees in the valley, an official spokesperson said Saturday.
Panidta, he said, visited the Valley on directions of Secretary Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR).
The Relief Commissioner, he said, met several concerned officers and discussed issues like accommodation, inter-district transfers, transfers of employees to safer places besides facilities being provided to the employees at the transit camps.
According to the official spokesperson, the Relief Commissioner was told that about 1230 employees are residing in pre-fabricated accommodation at Natnussa in Kupwara, Veervan in Baramulla, Haal in Shopian besides concrete flats at Vessu in Kulgam, Sheikhpura in Budgam and Mattan in Anantnag district.
“He visited these colonies and took stock of facilities being provided to the inmates in these flats. He directed the field staff and the officers of other agencies to ensure that all the basic amenities are provided to the inhabitants of these transit camps,” he said.
At Natnussa Kupwara, he said, the inmates complained about poor power supply and internet service.
“The issue was taken with the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara who revealed the issue has already been taken up with PDD Handwara and will be resolved shortly. The Internet problem has also been raised up with all the Companies who have assured that Towers will be installed soon,” he added.
According to the official spokesperson, the Relief Commissioner stated the new constructions are going on at more than 20 places and by 2022 all the PM package employees will be provided with concrete and suitable accommodation.
“At present, the construction is in full swing at Wandhama Ganderbal, Odina Bandipora, Fatehpora Baramulla, Alowpora Shopian and it is expected that the accommodation will be allotted to the employees in the coming months of March and April,” he said.
Pandita, he said, also visited the construction sites at Wandhama, Odina, Fatehpura, Kulangam Bagh and took stock of the pace of progress on ongoing works.
“He was accompanied by Tehsildar Relief Srinagar, employees of engineering wing and other concerned Relief officials. All the issues raised there were discussed threadbare with Chief Engineer PW(R&B) Department, Executive Engineers and concerned contractors for an early redressal,” he added.
The official spokesperson further said that the Relief Commissioner also attended his camp office Srinagar and took stock of grievances of the migrants putting up in various hotels in Srinagar.
“Relief Commissioner assured the complainants that he will be organizing camps to reach to the PM package employees at their door steps to mitigate their issues and concerns,” he added.
