Srinagar: Prominent Srinagar daily Greater Kashmir on Thursday vacated the government quarter in Srinagar’s Mushtaq Press Enclave, its office for more than three decades.
Rashid Makhdoomi, printer and publisher of Greater Kashmir confirmed to Kashmir Observer that the paper was served a show cause notice on November 18 by the Estates Department and they decided to vacate quarter today itself.
“Almost all of the office has been vacated and shifted to Rangreth.” Makhdoomi said.
According to sources, the extension for accommodation provided to GK had expired in 2001. The Deputy Director Estates Department in the show cause notice had given the newspaper till November 24 to present its side. However, sources said the newspaper began evacuating the building on November 18 itself.
