Awantipora- Department of Chemistry, Islamic University of Science and Technology, today organized a special lecture on “PATENT FILING”. The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shakil A. Romshoo, Chief Guest on the occasion.
In his Presidential address, Prof. Romshoo, who is an internationally acclaimed and awarded scientist himself with an outstanding contribution to the development and application of Geomatics for earth & environmental sciences noted the importance of patents and also talked about the patent filing status of IUST, while inspiring the participants during his address.
Prof. Romshoo while sharing his vision regarding developing a quality scientific and research temperament within the university, assured his full support towards patent submissions and said that “at least 16 patents were currently operational in the name of IUST.’’ HVC also congratulated Head Department of Chemistry Dr. Aabid Hussain Shalla for organising such talks that are very relevant in current scenario and pertinent for developing a quality scientific culture.
Director, Bio Design Innovation Center (MHRD), R.D. University, Jabalpur and eminent expert Prof. S.S. Sandhu who was the invited speaker, deliberated at length on the different aspects of Patent filing and discussed the entire process of submission. He also pointed different areas that are patentable and mentioned the domains which could not be patented and also stressed upon research supervisors to select the topics that fell in the patentable areas.
Earlier, Professor M. A. Khuroo from Department of Chemistry who was the patron of the event introduced the invited speaker, Prof S. S. Sandhu and spoke about his eminence in Patent drafting. During the Special lecture which witnessed 100 participants, various thrust areas were highlighted including the methodology, legal requirements, patent publishing, entrepreneurship. During the occasion Asst. Prof. UTD-Chemistry Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Teaching Faculty Dr. Sheikh Abdul Majid, Organizing Secretary Dr. Jan Mohammd Mir and other Faculty and Staff members were also present. On the occasion, Asst. Prof. UTD-Chemistry Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Dar proposed the vote of thanks.
