Srinagar: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two youth with a grenade and incriminating material in Sopore town of Baramulla district.
Asif Rasheed War and Altaf Hussain Najar of Natnoosa Kupwara were apprehended at a checkpoint established jointly by police, army’s 22 RR and 179 Battalion CRPF at Shalimar Colony crossing Sopore and a hand grenade and incriminating material was recovered from their possession, a police spokesperson said.
The naka, he said, was established on specific information.
“On preliminary enquiry, they disclosed their allegiance to the proscribed terrorist outfit LeT and intended to lob the acquired grenade at an undisclosed location in Kupwara with an intention to cause casualties,” the police spokesperson said.
Accordingly, he said, a case FIR No. 275/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore. Investigation is going on and more arrests are anticipated, he added.
