Pulwama: The death of a would-be- bride due to a heart attack on Saturday plunged Rahmoo village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district into grief and mourning.
26-year-old Sumaya Qadir suffered a massive heart attack at her home in Astanpora on Saturday afternoon, minutes after she returned from her paddy fields, a close relative said. Sumaya, who was scheduled to get married on November 16/17, he said, instantly collapsed on the ground and breathed her last.
“She was working at her paddy field throughout the day. Around 4:15pm, she returned home and complained of pain in her legs. In a jiffy, she collapsed on the ground,” the relative said.
He said that the heart attack was so massive that it did not give time to her family to shift her to the hospital for medical assistance. She was pronounced dead by a doctor in her native village.
Sumaya is survived by her parents and four siblings. Her two sisters are married while another brother too was scheduled to tie the nuptial knot next month.
“She was a pious Muslim and taught Quran to children in her native village. She had a rich knowledge of religion and would frequently attend religious seminars and workshops,” the relative said.
The death of the bride-to-be shocked the residents of Astanpora and plunged the village into mourning.
According to eyewitnesses, heart wrenching scenes were witnessed when her body was being taken away for burial. Hundreds of people attended her funeral prayers at the Irzada sports ground. She was laid to rest at her ancestral graveyard amid tears and sobs.
Meanwhile, Rahmoo Public Interest, a local social organization has expressed sympathy with Rayees Ahmad, brother of the deceased and one of the founding members of the organization.
