WINTERS have arrived early in Kashmir. The temperatures have dropped all of sudden. Temperatures had been considerably up throughout mid-year and even September which is considerably moderate was quite hot.
This was until October decided to drop the frost on us. Upper reaches in Kashmir have already received untimely snow which has stalled the smooth harvest of apples as well. Additionally, it has set the state in a state of hurry to wrap up with layers of sweaters when least expected.
These sudden changes in climate are an outcome of climate variations which have happened world over because of climate crisis. Our glaciers are receding. Our summers are hotter. The amount of snowfall over the years has also been erratic.
Experts in Kashmir should get proactive in researching the causes and suggesting ways to mitigate this crisis. They must also organise and ask the government to vocalise these concerns and raise these at larger platforms.
