ISLAMABAD: Maulana Sheerani has reiterated once more that a Muslim woman would have no business to object to the second or subsequent marriages of her husband, because it is in accordance with Sharia laws that Muslim men be permitted to marry up to four times. He has previously said, Muslim men wouldnt need to seek permission of their first wife before marrying a second time, as mandated by the law.
The cleric went a step further to say that a woman could not demand divorce if her husband married a second, third or fourth time. Although Islam had given women the right to separate from their husband, a second or even fourth marriage of the husband would not constitute a valid ground, the CII says. The woman could seek separation only if she was treated with inequality or cruelty, not in accordance with the injunctions of the Holy Quran, Sheerani insisted. The CII also deemed the relevant section of the Muslim Divorce Act, 1939, against the Sharia and demanded that the government repeal the law, to bring it in line with the Sharia.
