Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar Sunday rebutted an SOS order asking non-local labourers to reach police stations and army camps terming it as “totally baseless and fake order”.
“There is no such order. It’s a fake one,” the IGP Kashmir told a local news gathering agency.
Copy of an order attributed to IGP Kashmir that had gone viral on social media and which was carried widely by the national media had directed immediate shifting of the “non-local labourers/vendors to nearest police stations, CAPF and Army camps”.
“All non-local labourers in your respective jurisdiction should be brought to the nearest police or central paramilitary force or army establishment just now.” “The matter is most urgent,” the order read.
Media reports had said that the SOS message was relayed to the police on ground following intelligence reports which threatened of more such targeted attacks.
In October alone, 12 civilians have been killed in targeted attacks, including members of the minority community setting of alarm bells in the security establishment.
On Saturday, a street vendor from Bihar, Arvind Kumar was shot dead in Eidgah area of Srinagar. A labourer from Uttar Pradesh, Sagir Ahmad, was killed in Pulwama in South Kashmir.
The incidents come after the targeted killing of two teachers at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Eidgah last week. Earlier to that a Pandit trader was shot dead in the first week of October.
