SRINAGAR: Two matches of the JKFA Khyber Premier Division League 2021 were played on Monday at Synthetic Turf, TRC here.
The first match played between Downtown Heroes FC and Accountant General’s (AG’s) XI ended in a 0-0 draw. Both teams had opportunities in either halves of the match to score, but neither could capitalise on them. Although the Heroes dominated possession and had the best of chances, they were comprehensively thwarted by AG’s goalkeeper.
The AG’s XI will take pride in the 0-0 draw, as Downtown Heroes are one of the competition’s favourites. Deepak of Downtown Heroes was named man of the match.
In the second Premier Division League match, another of the tournament’s favourites J&K Bank FC, defeated ARCO FC 3 goals to 0.
J&K’s footballing heavyweights again proved their mettle after an early hiccup which saw them give away a penalty in just the 15th minute of the match. ARCO’s Yawar missed the target, and the Bank players grabbed on to the lifeline and completely outclassed ARCO, in what turned out to be a comfortable encounter.
J&K Bank took the lead in the 29th minute through Furqan and minutes later, Prem doubled Bank’s lead in the 34th minute. At half time the score read 2-0 in favour of J&K Bank FC.
The second half saw a rejuvenated ARCO FC, who had several chances to score. However, J&K Bank ended all ARCO hopes of a comeback, by scoring the game’s third goal in the 75th minute of the match. Prem scored the goal, his second of the match. At full time, J&K Bank FC defeated ARCO FC 3-0.
