Srinagar: Several mainstream parties have denounced the killings and said such acts of violence have no place in the society.
“Condemn the killing of Shri M L Bindroo who chose to stay back in Kashmir even during peak insurgency. Such acts of violence have no place in our society. May his family find the strength to deal with this loss,” PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti posted on her official Twitter handle.
Former J&K Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President, Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter to condemn the killings in a series of posts.
“What terrible news! He was a very kind man. I’ve been told he never left during the height of militancy and remained with his shop open. I condemn this killing in the strongest possible terms & convey my heartfelt condolences to his family. God bless his soul,” Omar posted on Twitter.
“Another targeted attack in Srinagar. A poor non local handcart stall owner selling golguppas has been shot & has reportedly succumbed to his injuries. No words of condemnation are enough. May his soul rest in peace,” he wrote in another Tweet.
“Mohd Shafi Lone of Naidkhai becomes the third casualty this evening. He was shot dead a short while ago in Bandipore district of North Kashmir. Even the words of condemnation & condolence after these militant attacks start to sound hollow. May Allah grate the deceased Jannat,” the NC leader said in another Tweet.
Echoing similar views, the People Conference Chairman, Sajad Lone termed the killings outrageous and unacceptable.
“The fatal attack against the owner of Bindroo medicates is outrageous and unacceptable. I knew the gentleman personally. He never left the valley. And terrorists made him pay for that. May he live in peace,” Lone wrote on his official Twitter page.
“Two more killings. Truly shocked at these brutal acts of violence.
I don’t know what the killers want to achieve. We have seen this blood shed for 3 decades. Apart from sufferings we have achieved nothing,” he wrote in another Tweet.
Apni Party President, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari termed the incidents as extremely barbaric, reflecting the inhuman nature of perpetrators behind these attacks.
In a statement issued here, Bukhari condemned the killings of M.L Bindroo, a well-known pharmacist store owner in Lal Chowk, a non-local street vendor Virender Paswan from Bihar and another civilian identified as Mohammad Shafi from Shahgund Hajin area of Bandipora districts who were shot dead in cold blood.
“There are no words to condemn these killings. Our heads hang in shame. Mr. Bindroo never left his homeland even in the worst of turmoil and had continued to make the life saving drugs available to humanity in this part of the world. Is this how he has been repaid for his public services?” Bukhari asked.
Similarly, Bukhari said that killing of non-local labour in Lal Bazar and another civilian from Hajin is highly disgraceful as no words can ever compensate for the pain felt by their families.
“What logic can be given to the children who lost their breadwinner father in this senseless bloodshed? No words can deliver solace to them and nothing can bring back their loved ones,” he remarked.
He urged the administration to ramp up the investigations and nab the culprits who seem to be adamant on disturbing the peaceful environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also demanded that security of the vulnerable persons need to be reviewed and efforts must be made to avoid such ominous incidents in the future.
In a statement issued here, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami condemned Bindro’s killing.
“Late Bindroo stayed here in trying and difficult times and continued his service to the locals despite odds. It was a household name in Kashmir. His unfortunate death has sent shock waves. No words to condemn such a heinous and shameful act. This is indeed an irreparable loss for the whole society,” he said.
