Srinagar: WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook have gone down in several parts of the world, users reported on Monday evening.
All three apps are owned by Facebook and run on shared infrastructure.
Users posted messages on Twitter saying the popular social networking and communication platforms were inaccessible from around 9 pm Indian time.
The website downdetector.com, which tracks web services, also reported a sharp spike in complaints by users.
“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can,” a message on the Facebook website said.
WhatsApp acknowledged the outage on Twitter.
Later WhatsApp also issued a statement and said “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.”
This is the third time the social media platforms have got down. Earlier in March and April this year, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram faced major global outage.
Meanwhile, people have begun a meme fest on Twitter calling out the server down a normal routine.
One user wrote “WhatsApp,Facebook, and Instagram down again, the world right now is switching to twitter”.
