New Delhi: After India sent its first satellite into the Mars orbit on Wednesday, 24 September, the Indian Space Research Organisations (ISRO) Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan has sent the very first image it took of the surface of Mars- whose caption reads, The view is nice up here. The image was posted by the orbiters official Twitter account on Thursday.
India scripted space history on Wednesday as ISRO successfully inserted its low-cost MOM spacecraft, into an orbit around the Red Planet in its very first attempt.
This puts ISRO in the elite league of the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency and the erstwhile Soviet Union for carrying out successful missions to Mars.
The insertion into Marss orbit went perfectly as planned, with the spacecraft executing on cue the time tagged commands loaded to its computer system 10 days ago by mission scientists from the Mission Operations Centre (MOX) at ISROs Telemetry, Tracking and Command (ISTRAC) facility in Peenya in north Bangalore.
