13 Persons Detained For Not Wearing Mask, 5 Shops Sealed; 9 FIRs Lodged
Srinagar: As coronavirus cases continue to show an upwards trend in this capital city, the district administration on Tuesday detained over a dozen people for violating Covid-19 related norms and guidelines.
The Magisterial flying squads constituted by the district administration conducted inspection of various checkpoints at different locations of Srinagar including Bemina, Batamaloo, Lal Chowk and other adjoining areas during which 13 persons were detained for not wearing masks and violating the Covid-19 guidelines imposed throughout Srinagar, an official spokesperson said.
Besides it, five shops were also sealed and nine FIRs lodged against the Covid-19 SOP violators in the city. The authorities also notified five more micro containment zones in Srinagar, taking the total number of containment zones in the district to 26.
The action against violators comes at a time when this capital city is witnessing steep rise in daily coronavirus cases.
According to the reports, special inspection teams of magistrates and other officials have been constituted to check on the Covid violations as the district is contributing half of the total Covid-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
“There will be a night inspection on the marriage functions in the district from this evening, and wherever the Covid violations will be found, there will be fines and FIRs against the violators,” an official said.
The official said that as per the State Executive Committee (SEC), for the marriage parties, gathering of more than 25 people is prohibited, but there are reports of gross violations at marriage functions, as large gatherings are being invited, which is against the Covid-19 Sops and guidelines.
On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir reported 150 new Covid-19 cases, half of them detected in Srinagar.
According to officials, out of 150 new cases detected on Tuesday, Kashmir Valley reported 112 cases and the remaining 38 were reported from Jammu division.
In Valley, Srinagar reported 75, Budgam 11, Baramulla 10, Pulwama 4, Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal 3 each, Anantnag 2 and Kulgam 1 new case of Covid-19. Shopian in south Kashmir reported no new case of coronavirus, the officials said.
Similarly, Reasi reported 10, Jammu 8, Doda 7, Rajouri 5, Poonch 4, Kishtwar 2, Kathua and Ramban 1 each new case of virus. No fresh case of virus was reported from Udhampur and Samba districts.
Also, officials said that 72 more Covid -19 patients have recovered—25 from Jammu and 47 from Kashmir.
They further said that the death toll remained at 4414 in J&K — 2168 in Jammu division and 2246 in Kashmir, as no fresh fatality was reported from the UT during the last 24 hours. However, one fresh confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) was reported today, officials said.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate, Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad on Tuesday said that anybody found without a mask in public places shall have to face strict action besides depositing fine as prescribed under Rules.
He said Covid-19 pandemic is not yet over and we are at the stage where adopting Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour is paramount to avoid the expected danger of 3rd wave of Covid -19 pandemic as predicted by health experts.
He also urged people of Srinagar to exhibit strict compliance to the government directions for larger public safety and health and follow COVID-19 related advisories and guidelines including use of Face Masks, maintaining Social Distancing.
He also appealed to traders and transporters to cooperate with district administration and strictly follow Covid-19 SOPs and precautions to control the Covid-19 infection.
