SRINAGAR: Kashmir Traders And manufacturers on Tuesday joined hands together constituting State Economic Rehabilitation Forum (SERF) to assess the damages and take up the compensation matter with the Central and the State governments in coming days.
Mohammad Yasin Khan, president Kashmir Economic Alliance and Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association (KTMF) estimates the losses to the tune of one lakh crore rupees.
In Kashmir valley alone over one lakh ops are damaged besides destruction suffered by the residential houses, roads, buildings, transport and the tourism sector. This is why KCCI, CCIK, KEA, KTMF and FCIK joined hands and formed SERF to assess these losses and take up the compensation part with the government, KNS quoted Khan as saying.
He said that the SERF will be meeting in coming days to chalk out the programmes and plans how to assess these losses and how to accommodate the victims of floods who are not insured. There are 18 members of this Forum who represent different trade bodies. We will be meeting very soon to chalk out a detailed programme. We will see how to assess and work out the statistics about damages suffered by the people including traders of the state, he added.
Khan said that unfortunately the state is completely hit by the worst ever floods that destroyed each and every sector especially the business community. All the goods worth thousands of crores in ops and godowns is destroyed and can only be disposed at dumping sites. Around one lakh shopkeepers have suffered huge losses and most of them are not insured for their ops and goods. We will have to see how to accommodate them, he added.
Khan said that SERF will be meeting state and the central governments very soon. We will see how to approach the central government with our report on damage assessment, Khan said adding that different formats are being prepared and some of them already being filled up by the victims of the flood fury.
