KUPWARA: A chopper was pressed into service to track the militants who gunned down an Army soldier during the wee hours Saturday in Kalaroos forests of frontier district Kupwara.
Army sources said that during a routine combing operation, a patrolling party from 28 RR came in contact with two to four militants at Baran Top in Kalaroos area of Lolab as a result there was exchange of fire between the two parties. Sources added that an army solder identified as Choman Yadav was killed during the encounter while the militants managed to escape from the spot.
Army along with other security agencies had launched a combing operation in Kalaroos forests and so far five militants and 4 soldiers have been killed during the gun fights that ensued during this operation from past many days.
Sources said that soon after the exchange of fire between the militants and army, chopper was pressed into service to nab or kill the militants. Army sources said that 2 to 4 militants are still present in the area while army has launched a manhunt to track them.
