KARACHI: In a case of unprecedented barbarism on the part of a married man, in Badani Town, Kashmore, in Pakistans Sindh Province, his family and community elders conspired to declare his wife a Kari- meaning black, to imply that she was morally corrupt, because she greeted her maternal uncle by shaking his hand- which happens to be a customary practice in rural Sindh, where the young woman came from.
As punishment for her heinous crime, village elders ordered her husband to unleash the hounds on her. The incident left the young woman severely injured, but she managed to escape to her parents home, and continues to live in fear.
The victim- Rasheeda gathered the courage to run away from her tormentors to the relative safety of her parents home despite being severely injured, but for the moment, the family has moved in with other relatives anticipating that they would be hunted down, while hoping that the situation might improve, The Express Tribune reported.
