SRINAGAR: Burglars smashed the shutters and broke in to fourteen shops and a cash machine during the night in Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district, a senior police official said.
The official said the burglars managed to take away cash from the shops but their bid at the cash machine in the Qamaria Square of the market was unsuccessful.
A police team rushed to the market after shopkeepers found the shutters broken, in the main market some 22 kms from state’s summer capital Srinagar. The officer said that they were still investigating about how much cash was looted.
The burglars didnt take away goods from the shops, a shopkeeper said that burglars managed to sneak away with at least Rs 1, 50,000.
The shopkeepers in the morning held a protest and demanded the installation of CCTVs and a police post in the market.
We are actively investigating the case and reviewing the surveillance, the official said. Were trying to identify the suspects.
However, police has registered an FIR 122/2014 in Ganderbal police station under section RPC
457,380, 511 and have started further investigation in the case.
