Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday accused government of threatening shopkeepers with cases for observing a shutdown on the second anniversary of special status revocation
Mehbooba, who led a protest march on August 5 against the scrapping of Kashmir’s semi-autonomous status, took to Twitter on Saturday to slam the alleged intimidation of shopkeepers by the government.
“GOI threatening shopkeepers with FIRs for shutting their shops on 5th Aug as a mark of protest is the latest addition to the growing number of CBMs for Kashmiris since all party meeting,” the PDP President posted on her Twitter handle.
‘First CBM – firing govt employees on trivial grounds followed by denying jobs & passports,” she added.
Pertinently, on Wednesday various trade bodies accused police of warning them against observing a strike in this capital city on the second anniversary of special status revocation.
A day later, pictures and videos went viral on social media websites showing men in civvies accompanied by cops directing shopkeepers to open their business establishments. In one such viral video, one of the police officials can be even heard asking for a hexa-blade to cut open the lock of one of the establishments.
