SRINAGAR: The blessed and fertile land of Kashmir has inspired Turkish Filmmaker Selma Koksal to come all the way from Istanbul to participate in the International Film Festival of Kashmir (IFFK) 2014, which is her first visit to the Sub-continent.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Selma expressed her pleasure to be part of the festival organized by Experimental Moving Images and Theatre Association (XMITA) from August 18.
This is great feeling to be part of the festival and exchange my ideas and experiences with audience and students. This festival also gives us the platform to know different cultures and languages of the world, Selma said.
She is the filmmaker and professor in Cinema Studies who had arrived here on Wednesday. Her feature film BAHAR ISYANCIDIR (Spring is rebellious) has been nominated for IFFK 2014 in the Feature Film category.
The film narrates the story of a theatre group in Istanbul, in a time period starting from the second half of the 90s, going through the start of the 2000s and up to our day.
The people who are members of this theatre group, Rüya, Gül, Behram, Ali, Kerem and Mehmet, had grown up in the shadow of the military coup of September 12, 1980. These people try together to perform the art of acting, thus to survive the current historical period, in which ethical and cultural values change rapidly under the influence of liberal economies
Selma will conduct the master-class with the students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and University of Kashmir on August 22 in the Cultural Academy hall at 11am and Islamic University Auditorium at 2pm. Besides, there are few more participants including amateur filmmakers and college students.
Pramod Payyanur, director of Malyalam feature film Balyakalasakhi which was also screened in IFFK said that his participation in the film festival gave him the morale booster as standard of the festival is first-class.
As a young filmmaker, this was my first participation in any international festival. This will definitely open new ways for m, he said.
