Srinagar: With the chief minister Omar Abdullah on August 15 claiming that not more than 100 people are in jails here, the official website of the JK prisons turns defunct though inaugurated in the year 2012.
According to the KNS, the official website of the state Prisons department namely www.jkprisons.org turns out to be not working with the webpage revealing, The contents of this website are being updated and shall be made available soon.
Reports informed that the Principal Secretary Home Department, BR Sharma on January 15 declared 5th State Prison Duty Meet 2012 open at a function held at Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu.
On the occasion, BR Sharma, who was chief guest, also launched the Website of J&K Prisons Department (www.jkprisons.org) which was long pending demand of the department. He emphasized the importance of the Meet and appreciated the work of Prisons Department particularly the programmes of Reformation and Rehabilitation for changing the mindset of the deviated youth.
On Saturday when the netizens here tried their utmost to open the website, the same had turned defunct leaving the people aggrieved- maintaining that there is no source wherefrom the claims made by the government and the chief minister Omar Abdullah could be verified.
Pertinently, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his address on August 15 said that hardly hundred people are languishing in jails in Jammu and Kashmir. He said even 100 people in jails of J&K is a big number.
He challenged separatists claim that thousands are languishing in jails here.
Omar was addressing August 15 function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. I challenge all those people who are trying to stoke passions in the state by saying that thousands are languishing in prisons in Jammu and Kashmir.
If 100 people are in prisons here this time, I would say that is a big number.
