Killing An Act Of ‘Gang Rivalry’: Police
Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday shot dead a youth in broad daylight in the Old City area of Nawa Kadal here, with police claiming the killing as an act of ‘gang rivalry’.
25-year-old Meeran Ali Pathan, a professional body-builder and gym trainer was shot at and critically injured by unidentified gunmen in Bulbul Lanker locality near Nawa Kadal here on Tuesday, reports said. Pathan, as per the reports, was removed to the nearby SMHS hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to a police spokesperson, preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident was an act of Gang rivalry.
“The Preliminary investigations conducted into the matter revealed that the killed youth was a part of 16 Gujjar Gang and was killed following a rivalry between two local gangs in the area,” he said.
“There was rivalry between two local gangs –Downtown Etihad and Gujjar Gang in the area and Mehran (Sic) was part of Gujjar Gang,” he added.
The police spokesperson further said that investigation into the matter is in progress.
Pertinently, Pathan was earlier grilled by police in a stabbing case in downtown. He has over ten thousand followers on his Instagram handle and was touted as “social media influencer”.
