Diversions Trigger Chaos In City, Enrage Commuters

Srinagar: Several diversions in view of the security arrangements amid President of India Ram Nath Kovind’s three-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Monday choked the city streets consequently leading to massive jams thereby enraging the commuters.

As part of security measures for the President’s visit, traffic on the two approach roads to Raj Bhawan where President Kovind has been diverted between Sunday and Wednesday.

A traffic department official said diversions have been placed in some areas of the city and no traffic is being allowed on Foreshore Road, along the famous Dal Lake from Dalgate and Nishat axis, as well as towards Gupkar for the next three days.

Kovind is in the capital city Srinagar and is scheduled to address the convocation of University of Kashmir on Tuesday.

His visit began on Sunday and will last till Wednesday. In Srinagar, the president will address the 19th Annual Convocation of the University of Kashmir on Tuesday.

Meanwhile traffic on Baramulla-Srinagar highway was diverted on Monday morning. Traffic on Gupkar and Foreshore roads, the two approach roads to Raj Bhawan and the Nehru state guest house on the banks of Dal lake, has been diverted between July 25 and 28.

In addition to this the small passenger vehicles coming from South Kashmir were also diverted through Lasjan Byepass as part of security measures for the President’s visit.

The massive security arrangements have caused massive inconvenience to the people, who complained that the arrangements choked the city streets.

Pertinently, the Kashmir Observer staffers were also barred from entering their office that is located on the Boulevard road.
