New Delhi: In George Orwells famous 1945, dystopian novel- Animal Farm, which he described as a satirical tale against Stalin, he famously said, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others, when the pigs on the farm, who promise equality to all animals, turn into the tyrants they promised to replace- the humans. In a bizarre twist on this, in a Capitalist context, it turns out, not all the rich of the world are quite equal either. Some are more equal than others. A recent report by wealth research firm Wealth-X has found huge disparities in distribution of wealth among Indian billionaires.
Indias top five richest, led by Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani, collectively control $85.5 billion (about Rs. 5,21,550 crore) in personal wealth, accounting for 47.5% of the countrys total billionaire wealth of $180 billion, the report says.
Mukesh Ambani tops the rich list with an estimated net worth of $24.4 billion (about Rs. 1,48,840 crore) followed by ArcelorMittal chairman Lakshmi Mittal, Sun Pharmas Dilip Shanghvi, Wipros Azim Premji and Tata Sons shareholder Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry.
In comparison, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan is worth $600 million, while cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who retired in November 2013, boasted of a personal fortune of at least $160 million, the survey said.
