SRINAGAR: The death of a civilian during a militant ambush at a police party on Wednesday night sparked unease in parts of Pulwama with people resorting to protests and observing shutdown at Kakapora and Awantipora towns.
One Manzoor Ahmed Qasab son of Ali Muhammad resident of Ghat Mohalla Awantipora was a mechanic by profession who was running a shop at Kakapora for past four years.
To mourn his death, people observed shutdown at both places in Awantipora and Kakapora in South Kashmirs Pulwama district. All the shops and business establishments remained closed while transport was off the road.
Large contingents of police and CRPF personnel were deployed in Kakapora to thwart any kind of protests. Eyewitnesses said that despite tight security, scores of youth indulged in stone-pelting while police exercised maximum restraint and did not retaliate.
