BAGHDAD: The designated Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi indicated on Tuesday that Nuri al-Maliki will remain a key partner in the political process, praising his role in the face of terrorism and pointing to the need to overcome the crisis and to live in security and well-being.
Abadi said in a statement that the former Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki will remain a brother to me and a key partner in the political process who deserves praise for his role in confronting terrorism and nation-building.
Abadi praised the role of the National Alliance, including members of the State of Law Coalition and the Islamic Dawa Party, which according to him, got “heavy responsibilities in this sensitive juncture, stressing that there are a lot of tasks that await this alliance.
Abadi gave thanks to the people, praising their sacrifices and patience despite all challenges, stressing that it will be of help to people in overcoming these crises and to live in peace and security and well-being.
Earlier on Monday Iraqs new President, Fuad Masum, appointed Haider Abadi to form a new government after a dispute over the nomination of Iraqs Prime Minister which lasted for more than two weeks. The State of Law Coalition confirmed that they had not elected Abadi to be their candidate for Prime Minister and that Abadis candidacy has no legal merit.
