THE debate about reopening schools still needs to be put on hold. One mustn’t jump the gun on it too soon. While it is imperative to proactively find ways to fill the gaps that have been left in our shift from physical to digital, it need not be done through opening up schools. We need to find sustainable alternatives.
Digital remote education needs to be taken as a norm for a while and schools must come up with ways students can be engaged in activities that they are missing out on due to remote classes.
The virus is still here. This constant vacillation from one mode to the next is only going to keep students in anticipation. This will be counter-productive. We need to come up with ways to provide children with a conducive and safe environment to grow. This can only be done by minimising the effects of uncertainty as much as possible.
Socialising and physical activities have been the areas where we need to focus. Parents and schools can collaborate to provide kids to socialise safely and get involved in physical activities like sports as well.
