SRINAGAR: Two matches of the JKFA Professional League 2021 were played on Wednesday at the Synthetic Turf, TRC in Srinagar.
In the first match, a 4:00 pm kick off, Shaheen FC Jammu took on Kashmir Avengers FC.
“Right from the start both the teams played offensive football trying to create goal scoring opportunities. It was in the 10th minute that Macdonald of Shaheen Sports FC took the advantage of a mistake from Kashmir Avengers’ defenders and managed to score an easy goal. Shaheen FC was then awarded a penalty kick for the rough tackle inside the penalty area by an Avengers’ defender. Macdonald made no mistake in converting the penalty kick,” the JKFA said in a statement.
“At half time Shaheen FC was leading by two goals to nil. After the break, the Kashmir Avengers tried hard but could not penetrate the solid defence line of Shaheen FC. The match ended with Shaheen FC Jammu defeating Kashmir Avengers FC by 2 goals to 0. Macdonald of Shaheen FC was declared as the man of the match.
The second match of the day Lonestar Kashmir FC locked horns with Downtown Heroes FC. a 6:15 pm kick off, the match was played under the flood lights.
In what proved to be a high voltage match which attracted a lot of spectators the first and only goal was scored by Sessay of Downtown Heroes in the 15th minute. Downtown Heroes maintained the 1:0 lead till the final whistle, expertly neutralizing Kashmir FC’s attacking threat through out the match. Ifham Tariq of Downtown Hero’s FC was declared man of the match.
A two minute silence was observed before the two matches in honour of Gulzar Ahmad Khan, an ace football player of JKSPDC who passed away due to brief illness.
The JKFA Professional League is an 8 team qualifier tournament with top two teams slated to play in the prestigious I-League 2nd Division 2021-22 Season.
The League is organised by the JKFA in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
The League is set to continue today with J&K Bank XI vs Real Kashmir FC (R) at 4:00 pm and Hyderya Sports vs SCFA at 6:30 pm under flood lights.
