Srinagar: A former militant, who police said was absconding for the last 15 years, was arrested by police in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said Wednesday.
Ghulam Hassan Chopan of village Pahalgam Sigdi in Kishtwar was arrested by a special team of police station Chatroo on the basis of information provided by reliable sources, officials said. The official said that the team led by Inspector. Sandeep Singh under supervision of DySP Headquarters Devinder Singh Bandral raided the suspected locations and arrested the absconder.
Chopan, according to the official, was wanted in case FIR No. 17/2006 U/Sec 302/364 RPC 4/25 IA Act registered at Police Station Chatroo.
2 Militant Associates Arrested In Budgam
Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two militant associates of Lashkar-e Taiba (LeT) during a naka checking in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Mohammad Ashraf Shaksaz of Kalshipora and Mursaleen Maqbool Bhat of Shamsabad Budgam were arrested by police and army’s 53 RR during a joint naka at Railway Bridge Mohanpora, a police spokesperson said. He said incriminating materials and live ammunition were recovered from the duo associated with LeT.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested terrorist associates were providing shelter, logistics and other material support including transportation of arms and ammunition to the terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in various areas of Budgam,” the police spokesperson said.
He said that the arrested militant associates have been in touch with the militant commanders in PcK through various social media platforms and were also in constant touch with LeT self styled commanders in Kashmir.
The police spokesperson claimed recovery of incriminating material, including posters of LeT and live ammunition, 30 rounds of AK-47 and 7 rounds of Chinese pistol from the possession of the arrested militant associates.
“Accordingly, a case FIR number 207/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Budgam and investigation into the matter has been initiated,” he added.
