Srinagar: The annual Amarnath pilgrimage that began on June 28 this year would conclude on Sunday on Shravan Purnima as ‘Charri Mubarak’, the holy mace of Lord Shiva, would reach the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
“The annual Amarnath pilgrimage will conclude on Sunday. A caravan headed by Mahant Deependra Giri, the custodian of the Charri Mubarak, reached Panjtarani on Saturday evening, officials said.
Pilgrims will depart from Panjtarani during wee hours to holy cave where they will perform pooja which will mark the culmination of the 43-day yatra, they added.
Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, would attend the pooja at the cave shrine.
Incharge Joint Police Control Room, Abdul Hamid said that over 3.75 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine, while 45 pilgrims died during the course of yatra.
Last year all but 3.50 lakh pilgrims visited the cave which was the lowest
number of pilgrims visiting the cave shrine in almost a decade following strict implementation by Jammu and Kashmir government of the Supreme Court directions in this regard.
