Srinagar: Unidentified militants managed to give slip to the government forces after engaging them in a brief encounter in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, reports said Friday.
According to officials, an encounter broke out between unknown militants and the joint team of police, army in Redwani area of the district during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when the area was placed under siege and a search operation was started.
However, after a brief exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants, the guns fell silent.
“It seems that the militant escaped in the initial phase of the operation,” SSP Kulgam Gurinderpal Singh (IPS) was quoted by a local news agency GNS.
The encounter in Redwani broke out hours after four local militants were killed by state forces in two separate encounters in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Kulgam districts. The four slain militants, as per police were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Al-Badr outfits and were part of groups involved in various militancy related incidents. (With GNS inputs)
