SRINAGAR: Police have arrested at least 15 persons, including a cleric and a student, in connection with the attack on a policeman with an axe in north Kashmirs Pattan area last week.
Pertinently, unidentified persons had attacked a policeman, Firdous Ahmad Baba (683IRP) of 16th Battalion, with an axe in Pattan market and decamped with his INSAS service rifle on Saturday. The injured policeman was moved to SK Institute of Medical Sciences for the treatment in a critical condition.
Police sources said that at least 15 persons, including a student and an Imam have been arrested in this connection so far.
Some of the arrested youth hail from central Kashmirs Budgam district. Police had launched a massive search operation in Pattan area after the incident, sources said. Police even searched nearby orchards but could not trace the INSAS rifle which was snatched by the assailants.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Mir Suhail said,
A few persons including an Imam and students were called to police station for questioning. They were released after questioning.
Pertinently, Unknown persons had barged into the house of a judge in the citys Qamarwari area last week and had disarmed the guard on duty.
They later fled from the spot along with the service rifle, two magazines and 60 rounds.
In another attack gunmen had fired at a hospital security guard when he was buying medicine from a shop near Karan Nagar Srinagar.
On July 26 last month, a policeman was killed at a market in south Kashmirs Bijbehara area, while another policeman was killed in a grenade attack on the intervening night of July 26 and 27 in north Kashmirs Sopore area.
