SRINAGAR: Water-borne diseases have turned into an epidemic in many villages central Kashmirs Budgam and south Kashmirs Tral town, leaving dozens of people sick and scores suffering from jaundice and fever.
Residents of Chhoon village of Budgam district have alleged that they are forced to drink highly contaminated water due to the lackadaisical attitude of the PHE officials. The water supplied to us is unhygienic and is not fit for the human consumption, locals alleged.
They said: The water has foul smell and at times insects are visible in it. Within just a few days, more than 50 people have been severely infected.
Reports said that at least 50 patients were shifted to district hospital Budgam while in Chhoon village tents have been erected to treat the patients.
Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr Mehmooda Kar said that at least 46 patients were shifted to Budgam hospital while a special team of doctors are treating the patients. She however said that there is nothing to panic as such incidents have occurred in the past as well.
Meanwhile, water borne disease has also broken out in Satura village of south kashmirs Tral town due to contaminated drinking water.
