Asst Commandant Among 3 CRPF Personnel Injured, 2 Militants Believed To Be Trapped
Srinagar: Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including a senior officer were injured in an ongoing encounter with militants in Maloora area of the city outskirts, police said Monday.
Around 5pm Monday, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police assisted by paramilitary CRPF personnel laid a siege around Maloora area of the city outskirts and launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) on the basis of inputs suggesting presence of militants in the area, a police officer told Kashmir Observer. He said when the joint team started advancing towards the suspected spot, the militants hiding in a residential house fired upon them in a bid to break their dragnet and escape from the besieged area.
The officer said that the forces returned the fire setting off an encounter. In the initial exchange of fire, he said, an Assistant Commandant Satender Kumar of CRPF 21 battalion was injured.
“As the encounter raged on, two more CRPF men, including an Sub-Inspector Shivam Kumar of quick reaction team (QRT) got wounded. Both of them were removed to the army’s Badamibagh cantonment hospital for treatment,” the officer said, adding “The militants also declined surrender offer and engaged the search team in a gun-battle,”
Pertinently, the encounter broke out nearly an hour after police claimed a big success by arresting Lashkar-e-Taiba’s commander Nadeem Abrar in the nearby area of Parimpora.
According to the police officer, two militants, including a Pakistani are believed to be trapped in the area.
“We suspected Lashkar militant Junaid was hiding in the house. If we are successful in eliminating him, it will be a huge blow to the outfit as he’s considered to be the backbone of the militant organization,” the police officer added.
However, he quickly added that the holed-up militants were possibly carrying huge cache arms and ammunition with them.
The police officer further said that the arrest of LeT commander and the encounter in Maloora were indicating that the militants were planning a big strike against state forces.
Meanwhile, gunshots continue to rattle the area when the last reports came in. Many civilians, as per reports have also been evacuated by the joint forces as the encounter has intensified.
The army also joined the anti-militancy operation when the last reports came in.
LeT Commander Caught In Parimpora: Police
Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from Parimpora area of the city outskirts.
According to police, Nadeem Abrar was on board an Alto car when he was intercepted by the forces near Parimpora crossing on Monday afternoon and taken into custody. Abar, as per the police, was involved in several attacks on the state forces.
As per reports, a pistol and a grenade were recovered from Abrar, who is blamed by police for the killing three CRPF men in an ambush in Lawaypora area earlier this year.
“Top LeT commander Nadeem Abrar arrested. He was involved in several killings. Big success for us,” a police spokesperson quoted Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as saying.
