Football Fraternity Condoles Demise
SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s football fraternity has condoled the shocking demise of a budding footballer from Srinagar’s Baghat Barzulla area who died after he fell unconscious while playing.
Teenager Azaan Aslam passed away on June 20 while playing football. The cause of his death has not been revealed yet.
JKFA, football’s governing body in J&K, issued a condolence message and said that Azaan was a grassroots footballer.
“JKFA deeply mourns the sad demise of Azaan Aslam an upcoming Grassroots Footballer of Baghat Barzulla, Srinagar who passed away on 20th June 2021 after falling unconscious while playing,” the statement said.
“J&K Football Association shares the grief with the bereaved family and pray to Almighty to bestow peace upon the departed soul & give forbearance to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss,” it concluded.
Leading football club of the Valley, Real Kashmir FC, also condoled the demise of the young boy.
“Real Kashmir Football Club condoles the demise of Azaan Aslam, a young Footballer of Baghat Barzulla Srinagar. RKFC management prayed for the departed soul and to give strength to the bereaved family,” the club said in a statement.
Football fans in Kashmir also expressed sorrow at the untimely death of Azaan.
Recently the footballing universe grappled with the question of on-field health of footballers after Denmark star Christian Eriksen fell unconscious while playing in the Euro 2020. It was later revealed that Eriksen’s heart had stopped and that it was only after an immediate, life-saving CPR by his teammate and use of defibrillator by the medical staff that Erkisen was revived.
The incident caused much furore among football fans who called for every football club to teach footballers basic CPR and also to make defibrillators available at all levels of the game.
Young Azaan’s passing away is not the first time Kashmir’s footballing sphere has witnessed an on-field death. But fans and former footballers alike fear that with the lack of infrastructure, knowledge dissemination and medical professionals needed to tackle such incidents, Azaan’s death may not be the last.
