Srinagar: In run up to Eid-ul-Fitr, markets in Kashmir are wearing a festive look with people in large numbers making stop for the shopping at city centre. Reports received by KNS informed that throughout the day people from all age groups could be seen carrying carry bags with items ranging from kids garments to fashionable men and women wears and bakery items. The garment sellers and bakery-shop owners have spruced up their shelves with latest and wide range of product varieties. People living in Srinagar as well as those residing in far areas have all thronged the markets to shop amidst the rush of jostling and haggling for a bargain price. They buy clothes as well as food items including meat, chicken, vegetables and confectionery.
Customer rush was more noticeable in the city centre at Lal Chowk. People ask for new variety of biscuits, cakes, cookies, and pastry. Firecrackers are also in good demand. With the shopkeepers maintaining that a huge variety of crackers on this Eid as the demand is exemplary. At Goni Khan market here the shops selling jewellery, cosmetics, kids wears, and dupattas were main attractions for the ladies customers.
Meanwhile, mutton dealers expect a good business in the coming one or two days ahead of Eid. We do expect a business of over Rs 40 crore in next one or two days. Pertinently, the CA&PD department has mobilized a number of market checking squads to check black-marketing and hoarding.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated with religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm all over Jammu and Kashmir, first day of the Islamic month Shawwal, marking the culmination of month-long Ramadan fasting. Shawwal is the 10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar.
Eid is a day of joy and thanksgiving. Muslims celebrate this day by thanking Almighty Allah for bestowing them with the blessings of Ramadan. They gather with friends and family, prepare delicacies, wear new clothes, give each other gifts and put up lights and other decorations in their homes.
On this occasion special Eid prayers will be organized in Eidgahs, masjids and shrines. In their speeches, Islamic scholars and clerics are expected to highlight the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr as a thanksgiving for the month-long fasting when Muslims all over the world seek divine blessings and forgiveness. In Srinagar, the biggest Eid congregation will be witnessed at the historic Eidgah in downtown city at 10 a.m. Eid congregation is also expected to be organized at Dargah Asar-e-Sharif Hazratbal where the special prayers were held 10.30 a.m. Eid prayers will be also offered at the sprawling TRC Ground in the uptown civil lines area where thousands of devotees will congregate.
