Srinagar: Chairman Huriyat Conference -M Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday strongly reacted to reports that the government of India has asserted that time was not appropriate for revocation of AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mirwaiz in an interview to a local newsgathering agency said that under a conspiracy, people in Kashmir were being tortured with the use of these draconian laws. The Hurriyat Conference -M chairman stated that the consensus has been evolved over suppressing the people of Kashmir under the shadow of draconian laws like AFSPA.
He stated that both ruling and opposition parties seem to be in nexus over the issue- caring little about the agonized situation on ground. The Huriyat -M chairman delaying resolution of Kashmir issue will further complicate the crises on ground and that since the dispute is political in nature, hence must be resolved politically. It is unfortunate that worst military might is being exhibited in Kashmir with the forces having no accountability over the crimes they have been committing upon the innocent people of Kashmir since decades.
Kashmirs chief religious cleric remarked further that despite the atrocities committed upon the people, under the garb of AFSPA , the forces in Kashmir cannot even be touched, holding them accountable is a distant dream. The Union government had on Wednesday said that time was not appropriate for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Jammu and Kashmir.
