Srinagar: With the Congress announcing not to contest against Mohammad
Yousuf Tarigami, Hakim Mohammad Yasin and Ghulam Hassan Mir during the
upcoming elections in the state, the trio on Tuesday welcomed the
decision, stating, we must respect it.
However, the Awami Mutahida Mahaz leaders Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and
Hakeem Mohammad Yasin stated that the Congress didnt discuss the
issue with them and that they came to know about the same through the
local dailies.
CPI-M leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that AMM as a political
amalgam is not in alliance with any other political party. We are not
in alliance with any party including Congress. The fact is that
Congress didnt discuss the issue with us before making it public. We
read it from newspapers.
When asked whether AMM is going to field its candidates against the
Congress in the state during the coming elections, Tarigami maintained
that the conglomerate is yet to take final call over the issue. We
are not in hurry. We will select the candidates on merits. The amalgam
leaders will meet after Ramadan and the issue of polls will be
discussed threadbare, Tarigami stated.
He however stated that the Congress decision is not bad. Another
AAM leader and PDF chief Hakeem Mohammad Yasin, against whom Congress
too decided not to nominate candidate, termed the decision not novel
in nature. He stated that from the last three elections, Congress has
not been contesting against him at his home turf Khansahib. Hakeem
maintained further that being the leader of the AAM, the issue will be
discussed in the coming month. Present agriculture minister Ghulam
Hassan Mir when contacted stated that, anyone who respects you must
accept the respect with humbleness.
