Srinagar- A 37-year-old rape accused from Brath Kalan Sopore and lodged in a jail in Kupwara district has died, officials said on Monday.
They said inmate identified as Lateef Ahmed Mir son of Hamza Mir was arrested in case FIR No 15/2021 under section 376 (rape), 342 (wrong confinement) registered at police station Sopore.
Mir was under judicial custody in district jail Kupwara from February 5.
“He was under quarantine after testing covid-19 positive. However, he had tested negative of late. Yesterday he was shifted to hospital and died,” Superintendent of Kupwara, Shahbaz Hussain said as per news agency GNS .
