Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration said on Tuesday that it has received a fresh consignment of coronavirus vaccine, days after facing massive outrage over the shortage of vaccines in Kashmir Valley.
“J&K has today received fresh consignment of Covishield vaccine. The immunisation drive in Jammu and Kashmir division will continue on a war footing from tomorrow, 19th May. The government has also ensured for a continuous supply of vaccine doses to meet requirements,” the department of Health & Medical Education posted Tuesday on its official Twitter handle.
The health department in the Valley came under sharp criticism after the vaccination drive was reportedly put off due to the shortage of vaccines.
On Sunday, not a single person above 45 years in Kashmir Valley was administered vaccine jabs while in Jammu division, 8750 people above 45 years received vaccine jabs that day sparking widespread outrage among the people in the Valley.
According to the official data, in Jammu district 3093 people, in Udhampur 1157, in Rajouri 986, in Kathua 40, in Poonch 661, in Ramban 887, in Doda 731, in Kishtwar 360, in Reasi 524 and in Samba district 311 people above 45 years received vaccine jabs on Sunday.
A day earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had set a 10-day deadline for 100% vaccination of people above 45 years in Jammu and Kashmir
