Kargil: Amid Covid-19 scare, Muslim volunteers in Kargil region of Ladakh buried a Christian who died in hospital there from Covid-19.
According to reports an NHPC employee Samir Akaa, a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand who was posted in Kargil had tested Covid-19 positive last week. He succumbed to the dreaded disease at Covid-Care Hospital, Kargil on Sunday.
The infected employee was Christian by faith and had no one in Kargil to perform the last rites.
Muslim volunteers after receiving information about his death stepped in and buried the deceased near Chaman Mode, adjacent to Muslim graveyard.
“We responded immediately after coming to know about the death of this man. We have seen many difficult situations, even cases where children refused to touch their infected parents body,” said one of the volunteers.
It bears mention that Kargil is an overwhelmingly Shia Muslim inhabited region and Christian population is virtually non existent here.
Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, President Anjuman Jamiat-ul-Ulama Asna Ashriya, Kargil shared some photographs of burial on his Twitter handle, thanking these Muslim volunteers for setting a great example for humanity.
