THE Holy month of Ramazan is going to end soon. However, the blessed month took many blessed souls with it. Covid-19 cases spiked uncontrollably in Kashmir on account of institutional decisions as well as individual callousness and we’re still in the midst of a bomb that’s still ticking.
In the midst of all these circumstances, the blessed Eid ul Fitr has arrived. No matter how we feel, it is still an event for celebration. However, it is one that requires us to not lower our guards. In Kashmir, especially Srinagar, we have seen a brief dip in the cases. In a situation as grim as now, this news is still hopeful.
However, if we get careless by crowding markets, thronging mosques and visiting relatives; we’re only prepping a recipe for disaster. Do not let eid become a cause of distress to your families and loved ones who may get an infection instead of greetings from you.
Please treat yourself as well as every other person outside your households as infected. This is the kind of caution one has to practice. Try to celebrate eid within your households. Donate to charities. Spend a good time with family. But do not be a cause of distress to your families, relatives and friends.
We all spent a good time of Ramadan praying for our loved ones. Why would you lower your guards and put everyone in danger by doing something as avoidable as visiting someone on eid. Use digital means to reach loved ones. Keep your celebrations private and keep the mood upbeat within the safe space of your homes.
This eid, give your loved ones the gift of safety, health and life by not visiting them. Kashmir has suffered too much. We lose people every year. Please, protect Kashmir. We will have no one come to our rescue if we do not stay responsible and alert.
Who doesn’t love their land and their people? But by virtue of constant threats, Kashmiris love Kashmir a little more than usual. Let that reflect in the spirit of saving it by showing personal restraint and avoiding physical socialising and following all SOPs
