3832 Fresh Cases Of Infection Reported, 2330 In Kashmir
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir continues to grapple with a coronavirus pandemic as the infection claimed the lives of 47 more people, the highest ever fatalities in a single day, even as 3832 fresh cases of Covid-19 were detected across J&K in the last 24 hours.
According to the officials, 30 more people succumbed to the virus in Jammu division while 17 coronavirus related deaths were reported from Kashmir Valley, taking the death toll since the outbreak of pandemic last year to 2330 in J&K.
Among the victims from Valley included two men aged 25 from Srinagar and Handwara.
The 25-year-old from Natipora Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura, two days after he was admitted to the tertiary care hospital, the officials said. Also, they said, another youth from Magam, Handwara died at SDH Kupwara.
A 50-year-old man from Kathidarwaza here also died at SKIMS, nearly a week after he was admitted there, they said.
A 60-year-old man from Karannagar died a day after he was admitted to SKIMS, they said. A 73-year-old woman from Sanatnagar died five days after she was admitted to SKIMS, they said.
Four other persons also died at SKIMS: 70-year-old man from Pandach Srinagar, a 69-year-old woman from Nigeen Srinagar, a 73-year-old man from Sanatnagar Srinagar a 68-year-old Chadoora Budgam
An 80-year-old man from Umer Colony Lal Bazar Srinagar who was admitted to SMHS hospital on April 27 died at the facility, they said.
Also, they said, a 75-year-old man from Solina Payeen Srinagar, a 62-year-old man from Hyderpora and a 55-year-old from Wanabal Nowgam died at SMHS hospital.
A 50-year-old woman from Hangalpora died at GMC Anantnag , less than a day after she was admitted there, they said.
Also, a 37-year-old man from Bihar was brought dead to GMC Anantnag and tested positive for covid-19, they said. However, his death would not be counted among the fatalities in J&K, they said.
With these fresh deaths, the number of people succumbing to the virus has gone up to 2330 in J&K—919 in Jammu and 1411 in Kashmir.
Regarding the fresh cases detected on Saturday, officials said, 2601were from the Valley and 1231 others from Jammu division, taking the overall tally of infections to 179915.
Giving the district wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 1084 cases, Baramulla 309, Budgam 291, Pulwama 70, Kupwara 122, Anantnag 286, Bandipora 77, Ganderbal 94, Kulgam 221, Shopian 47, Jammu 504, Udhampur 141, Rajouri 96, Doda 42, Kathua 120, Samba 137, Kishtwar 15, Poonch 64, Ramban 60 and Reasi 52.
There are 30343 active cases—11172 in Jammu and 19171 in Kashmir, officials said. (With GNS inputs)
