Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies views with grave concern the latest move by New Delhi to create three self sufficient townships in Kashmir province ostensibly to provide housing facilities to migrant Kashmiri Pundits.
A cursory look at the proposal makes it clear that with few add-ons each township will gradually assume the shape of a state within the state. KCSDS would like to reiterate that every section of Kashmiri society welcomes the return of pundits to their home and integrate fully with their Muslim neighbourhoods as they used to traditionally live before they unfortunately left the valley, in many cases handing the keys to Muslim neighbours with a promise to return soon. They undoubtedly suffered in the plains but their miseries are not a pale shadow of what their Muslim brethren did and continue to brave till date.
From the very beginning of their migration , they have been manipulated by well-heeled charlatans who sowed seeds of hatred and animosity at the behest of Sang parivar( amalgam of communal parties) who are now pulling the strings of power in Delhi.
While KCSDS is soon going to organise a round table conference to examine the various contours of the proposed nefarious move and their social implications, it vehemently appeals all the sane elements in both Muslim and Pandit community and secular forces in India to resist the sinister design of balkanising the Kashmiri society along communal lines. Kashmiri societys syncretic ethos, inclusivity and harmonious co existence is celebrated the world over but has been deliberately strained during 1990s by forces over which the society had no control.
The new move presents a challenge to all sane elements and they should collectively oppose it tooth and nail lest they are swept away by the evil designs of the forces who are hell-bent on the balkanization of Kashmiri society with far reaching disastrous consequences for the entire region, to distract peoples attention from burning problems of the day to day life which the present Govt had promised to solve with a magical wand within no time during elections.
