Srinagar: The mercury in Kashmir has been showing an upward trend with the minimum temperature on Thursday rising above normal in all parts of the Valley, officials said.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 11.6 degree Celsius against 10.2 degree Celsius on the previous night. The temperature was 2.3 degree Celsius above normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K, he said.
Qazigund recorded a low of 8.6 degree Celsius against previous night’s 7.7 degree Celsius and it was above normal by 0.8 degree Celsius.
Mercury settled at 5.7 degree Celsius against 4.9 degree Celsius on the previous night in Pahalgam. The temperature was above normal by 1.3 degree Celsius during this time of the season in the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 8.2 degree Celsius against normal of 8.1 degree Celsius and last night’s 7.6 degree Celsius, the official said.
Kupwara recorded a low of 8.6 degree Celsius against 5.5 degree Celsius on the previous night which was above normal by 0.8 degree Celsius for this time of the season in north Kashmir district, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of 6.4 degree Celsius against 5.0 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said. It was 2.2 degree Celsius below normal in the resort, the official added.
The weatherman has forecast very light rain or thunderstorms in Kashmir and Pirpanjal range towards afternoon till May 5.
“Isolated very light rain/thunderstorms in Kashmir and Pir Panjal range towards late afternoon,” the MeT official said regarding the forecast till next Wednesday. (GNS)
