SRINAGAR: The Annual Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine of Amarnath in the Kashmir Himalayas commenced today from the Baltal route, with N. N. Vohra, Governor, paying obeisance at the Sanctum Sanctorum and participating in the pooja ceremony. He prayed for sustained peace, harmony, progress and prosperity in the State.
Usha Vohra, First Lady, and Rakesh K. Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of the Amarnathji Shrine Board, Lt. Gen. Subrata Saha, GOC,15 Corps also paid obeisance at the Shrine, along with other senior officers of SASB, Government, Police and Security Forces.
After his visit to the Shrine early in the morning, the Governor also reviewed the arrangements made for the pilgrims at the Yatra Shrine Camp and conveyed the Shrine Boards thanks to the State Government, Army, Central Para Military Forces, State Police and all the other concerned agencies for their support and cooperation. He stressed the need for effective supervision and round the clock monitoring by the Camp Directors and all the functionaries involved in the management of the Yatra for ensuring smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
From the Shrine the Governor flew to Neelgrath Helipad, near Baltal Base Camp, where he flagged-off the Neelgrath-Panjtarni helicopter services which are being operated by Global Vectra Heli Corp Ltd and Pawan Hans Ltd.
From Neelgrath, the Governor proceeded to Pahalgam where, along with G.A. Mir, Minister for Tourism, and Rafi Ahmad Mir, MLA, Pahalgam, he inaugurated the Pahalgam-Panjtarni helicopter services which are being operated by Himalayan Heli Services Ltd.
Among those present at Pahalgam were Vijay Kumar, DIG, Anantnag; O.S. Charak, DIG, CRPF; South Range; Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag; Sheikh Junaid, SSP, Anantnag; Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Chief Executive Officer, Pahalgam Development Authority; and other concerned officers.
After inaugurating the Heli Services at Neelgrath and Pahalgam, the Governor visited the Baltal Base Camp and the Access Control Gate at Domail where he reviewed the manner in which the Yatris were being checked and cleared.
Prominent among those present at Baltal were Muneer Khan, IGP, Traffic, Kashmir; Sarmad Hafeez, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal; Shahid Mehraj, Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal; R.K. Bhat, ADC, Ganderbal; Naseer Ahmad, ACR, Ganderbal; Pawan Parihar, Camp Director, Baltal; Arun Kishore Kotwal, Camp Director, Domail; and other concerned officers.
Meanwhile, CEO, SASB has once again appealed to the intending Amarnathji Yatris to embark on the pilgrimage only after getting medically checked and obtaining a valid Yatra Permit. This would ensure against any avoidable inconvenience to them.
The CEO said that the Board has also issued a detailed Advisory of Dos and Donts for the Yatris visiting the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnathji. The Yatris need to strictly adhere to these Dos and Donts as they have to undertake an arduous trek through high mountain ranges under adverse weather conditions.
