Srinagar – Participants at the 18th convocation of the Kashmir University on Thursday stood up as a mark of respect for the president, Pranab Mukherjee, and when the national anthem was played at the beginning and on the conclusion of proceedings following a request to do so.
Addressed by Mukherjee, the convocation was held amid tight security. Police and paramilitary forces had been deployed in and around the university and en-route to the venue.
Pertinently, students had shown disrespect for the national anthem by not standing up in the University during the inaugural function of a 3-day International Seminar on Impact of Peace, Conflict and Disturbances on Economic Development Processes on May 13. (KNS)
