Srinagar: Valley’s premier healthcare institution, SK institute of medical sciences (SKIMS) on Wednesday announced closure of non-emergency services, barring exceptional cases and said that 260 beds have been reserved for coronavirus patients at the tertiary care hospital.
“We have shut down the services for non Covid patients for the procedure that can be delayed for some time. Emergency services for non-Covid patients, like cancer management and all other emergencies are open at the moment,” Director SKIMS A G Ahangar said.
He said that the institution was treating 156 Covid-19 patients admitted in the hospital while 260 more beds have been reserved for such patients. He further said that 3 Covid-19 patient care centres have been set-up at the institute.
Ahangar also acknowledged that the institute was facing shortage of manpower and shortage of vaccines but the same has been taken up with the government for speedy action.
He also informed that the current consumption rate of oxygen in the institute is 3.93 lakhs litre per hour and additional required amount of oxygen is 1.5 lakh per hour.
Director SKIMS said that he assures the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the SKIMS will leave no stone unturned to assist people in all possible capacity. (KNS)
