SRINAGAR- As per reports, at least two students from department of law, central university of Kashmir (Ganderbal) tested positive for covid-19 on 13/04/2021. This happened while several departments of the University were conducting offline examinations of various semesters.
Meanwhile, the university is not shying away in conducting unnecessary offline activities such as seminars, presentations, viva etc. The reports suggest, on the same day when two students of the Department of Law tested positive for covid, the department had organized a seminar on “Traffic management in Kashmir: Problems, perspectives and a way forward”.
The notification issued to students of 8th semester of the department of law to attend the webinar read as follows: “The attendance of the students is mandatory as this semester has been specially chosen for this programme as a part of their compulsory internship.”
“It is pertinent to mention that the social distancing norms and even basic precautions and etiquettes such as wearing a mask are flouted within the university premises.” said a student from the Law Department of Central University.
On 15th and 16th, the department of law has scheduled presentations of a certain semester of students despite the fact that students and faculty members are testing positive within the department and require self-quarantine as per protocol.
“The premises need to be sanitized after the detection of cases, but no such action is being taken and the students have been left at god’s mercy and the University is on the verge of becoming a covid breeding hub.” said another student on the basis of anonymity.
As the situation turns grave day by day, the Law Department students have appealed to the Government Administration and Central University management to ensure strict measures in order to curb the spread of covid-19. The students have also demanded that they must not be compelled to attend University unless extremely necessary and online mode should be preferred until the situation gets better.
Meanwhile, the University officials have denied such allegations. “The offline classwork and activities have been suspended a long time back.” said the secretary to Vice-Chancellor.
