Srinagar: The weatherman on Tuesday forecast scattered to widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir for next few days.
As per the statement by the meteorological office here, there is possibility of scattered rains tomorrow while widespread rains have been predicted from April 15 to 17. On April 18, there was a forecast of scattered rains and isolated showers on April 19, the statement said.
The weather office has also issued ‘yellow warning for “isolated thunder/lightning with gusty wind 30- 40-kmph” for both Jammu and Kashmir divisions from April 14 to 17. There are four types of colour codes signifying the level of caution: green which means no action, yellow—situation to be watched), amber –government agencies need to be prepared for severe weather and red –action needed by the agencies.
Meanwhile, a meteorological department official said that the minimum temperature settled at 8.6 degree Celsius against 7.8 degree Celsius on the previous night in Srinagar. The temperature in the summer capital was 1.0 degree Celsius above normal for this time of the season, he said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 5.8 degree Celsius against 7.2 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 2.1 degree Celsius against 4.0 degree Celsius on the earlier night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 5.2 degree Celsius against previous night’s 5.8 degree Celsius, the official said.
Kupwara recorded a low of 6.5 degree Celsius against 5.2 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in the north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.5 degree Celsius against 0.2 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said.
Highway To Remain Closed Today
The Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, will remain closed on Wednesday owing to weekly maintenance and repair work, traffic authorities said on Tuesday.
“No traffic shall be allowed from either direction between Udhampur and Jawahar Tunnel in view of the repair work,” a traffic department official said in a communiqué.
Mughal Road, connecting Poonch and Shopian districts, and Srinagar-Sonmarg-Gumri road continue to remain closed, the official said.
