SRINAGAR: People in Pulwama district Friday observed a protest shutdown against the killing of three militant from Tral town. Amidst gloomy chants and freedom slogans, thousands of people participated in the funeral of three local militants in their native villages in South Kashmirs Tral town of Pulwama district.
In a fierce gun battle on Thursday evening, three local militants Adil Bashir Mir resident of Dadasara Adil Shah of Routhsana and Tariq Ahmed Parrey resident of Laribal were killed in Buchoo Tral.
Eyewitnesses said that shops, business establishments, schools, colleges and government as well as private offices remained closed in Tral town and adjoining villages while traffic also remained off the roads.
Early Friday morning people from Tral and adjoining villages marched towards the native villages of three slain militants, raising pro-freedom slogans. Large number of people rallied in vehicles and reached Laribal, Ruthsuna and Dadsara to participate in the separate funeral processions.
Eyewitnesses said that people first participated in the funeral procession of Adil Ahmed Shah of Ruthsana Tral, then in the funeral of Tariq Ahmed Parrey of Laribal and later in the afternoon in the funeral of Hizb Divisional commander Adil Bashir Mir of Dadsara Tral.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai led the funeral processions of Adil Shah (Ruthsana) and Tariq Ahmed Parrey (Laribal) and offered funeral prayers. The funeral prayers of Adil Bashir Mir was led by his younger brother that was attended by thousands of people.
Reports said that a large number of people drove in private vehicles and even in trucks and load carriers to participate in the funeral of the slain militants.
Reports said that the biggest funeral procession was witnessed in Dadasara Tral for Divisional Commander of Hizbul Mujhadeen, Adil Bashir Mir.
Meanwhile, scores of students participated in prayers in-absentia held at Kashmir University campus for these three slain militants. (CNS)
